Destination Wedding FAQ - Moonstruck Vacations
Q: So what is a "destination wedding"
A: A destination wedding is a popular alternative for couples who want to make their special day a little bit different. Instead of spending a lot of time and money on an enormous church wedding, many people are opting to get married at a resort in an exotic destination in the Caribbean, Mexico or elsewhere.
Q: Why would anyone want to do that?

A: Couples have many different reasons. Some people like the idea of being married in an exotic setting. Have you seen many of your friends' wedding photos? Sure, they're beautiful with the decorated church and the beautiful flowers and dresses. But, don't

they all look the same? Imagine your wedding photos with a backdrop like the picture below. Now, that's something people will talk about for a LONG TIME!

Exotic locations aren't the only reasons for a destination wedding, though. A lot of couples do it to save money.

Q: You mean I can save money by getting married on a tropical island?
A: Absolutely! A LOT of money!!!

Did you know that a destination wedding can cost almost HALF of what the average person would spend on a traditional wedding? If you've been doing any wedding planning, you've already discovered all the little expenses that quickly add up. You've got to pay the organist, the caterer, the flower guy, the wedding coordinator, the photographer, the cake decorator, etc, etc, etc. The list just keeps going. The truth is, if you get married at an all-inclusive resort on a tropical island, they're already set up and ready to accommodate you. We even know properties that will INCLUDE your wedding as part of your all-inclusive package! (That's like getting a FREE wedding!!!) Many resorts have wedding coordinators on site who will work with you and your Moonstruck specialist to ensure your special day is exactly what you want. They'll have the flowers arranged and ready. The dinner will be catered by the resort staff. They'll bake and decorate the cake. The alcohol (if you wish to imbibe) will be provided by the professional bartenders at the resort and is all-included in one low price. Price these things separately by yourself and you'll quickly see why a destination wedding makes perfect sense!

Q: So, you're saying that a destination wedding is also the stress free way to go?
A: Precisely! That is another reason that they have become so popular. Have you ever been a bride's maid? If so, you know what they go through. And let's be honest, the bride's maid is not the only person checking up on the minister, decorating the church/reception hall, making sure the DJ is on time, etc. You're only getting married once. Wouldn't you rather be enjoying your special day? With a destination wedding, you won't have to do any of this. The on-site, staff wedding coordinator will take care of it all for you.
Q: But, I'm not sure all of my friends/relatives could afford to fly to some exotic location and it is important for me to have them at my ceremony.
A: That's very understandable. However, in the past few years, prices at all-inclusive resorts and airfare have become incredibly reasonable. Sometimes, it is even possible to get a group discount for your party if you have enough guests. With enough planning, your guests could even make a deposit now and make payments on their trip to help it become more affordable. There are all kinds of options available to you that your Moon Specialist can help you sort out.
Most people take a vacation once a year anyway. Given enough time, it usually isn't difficult to fit your ceremony into their plans. How much more fun would they have being with a group of people they know, at an all-inclusive resort, celebrating your wedding and having the time of their lives? (Doesn't that sound better than another week at the same seashore or campground they've been visiting for the past 20 years?) Don't forget, weddings are about the guests, just as much as they are about the bride and groom. At a traditional wedding, many couples complain that they never have enough free time to spend with their guests. That won't happen to you since you'll all be staying together at the same resort. Your friends and family will make memories that they'll be able to talk about for YEARS!
Q: But, as much as we love our family and friends, my fiancé is not sure he wants all of these people to come along with us on our honeymoon.
A: And we don't blame him! But, don't worry... Reassure him that this won't happen. Many of our clients choose to move to another resort after the ceremony so they can be alone while their family and friends continue the party in another location. Some couples leave the resort scene altogether and spend their first few days as husband and wife on a romantic cruise, exploring other islands. The options are only limited by your imagination, and why not? After all, you've already traveled to an exotic, tropical location. How could it get anymore romantic?
Q: If I get married in a foreign country, will my marriage still be legal in the United States?
A: Absolutely. Different countries have different requirements for people who are getting married. Our Moon Specialists have 20 years of experience to rely on and we know how to navigate through the legal stuff. Your marriage will be just as valid as if you had been married in your home town.
Q: My fiancé and I are Protestants, Catholics, Jewish, (insert religion here) and it is important that we get married in our faith. Is that problem?
A: Usually not. We know a lot of different resorts/locations that can accommodate various ceremonies and traditions. We can even arrange a secular wedding for you, if that's your cup of tea. Remember, we've been doing this for a long time.
